1.4m girls banned from Afghan schools since Taliban return: Unesco

By Redoy K

UNESCO reports that since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, at least 1.4 million girls have been denied access to secondary education. Additionally, 1.1 million fewer children are attending primary school. The agency warns of potential increases in child labor and early marriage due to this educational crisis. With 80% of school-age girls now out of school, UNESCO describes the situation as wiping out two decades of educational progress, jeopardizing the future of an entire generation. AFP
