SC acquits ATM Azhar of 1971 war crimes case

Bangladesh’s Supreme Court today acquitted Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam of crimes against humanity and war crimes charges, overturning his death sentence. The Appellate Division unanimously allowed his appeal and ordered his immediate release. This marks the first time the apex court has acquitted anyone in a crimes against humanity case.
