Jamaat terms decision on its ban as ‘stubborn’ and ‘unlawful’
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has denounced the decision to ban the party as “stubborn, unlawful, and unconstitutional.” Party chief Shafiqur Rahman criticized the move, stating that the 14-party alliance lacks the authority to ban political parties. He claimed the decision aims to divert attention from recent violence during quota reform protests. Rahman defended Jamaat as a democratic party with a history of participating in democratic movements, noting past alliances with the current ruling party. He asserted that banning Jamaat would be unlawful and beyond the alliance’s jurisdiction. Prothom Alo
