St. Lucia’s Alfred wins Olympic women’s 100m gold
Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred won the Olympic women’s 100m gold medal, beating favorite Sha’Carri Richardson of the US. Alfred’s time of 10.72 seconds secured Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic medal. Richardson took silver (10.87s) and Melissa Jefferson bronze (10.92s). The upset victory came in rainy conditions at the Stade de France. Alfred led from start to finish, leaving Richardson unable to catch up despite being the reigning world champion. AFP
