Australia, US, UK sign nuclear transfer deal for AUKUS subs
Australia has signed a deal with the US and UK to exchange nuclear secrets and materials, advancing its plan to acquire nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS security accord. The agreement, seen as a response to China’s Pacific ambitions, sets standards for nuclear non-proliferation. Australia will receive nuclear material in sealed units and be responsible for waste management. China has criticized AUKUS, citing nuclear proliferation concerns in the South Pacific. AFP
