Take ‘concrete action’ to protect minorities
Amnesty International has urged Bangladesh’s interim government to take concrete action to protect religious minorities, following reports of attacks on Hindus and Ahmadiyyas since the government change on August 5. The organization called for swift and impartial investigations into crimes against minorities and associated mob violence. While welcoming Chief Adviser Yunus’s recent address to minority communities, Amnesty stressed the need for urgent follow-up actions to ensure justice, reparations, and prevention of future attacks. The interim government is pressed to guarantee rights and end the culture of political revenge.
