Windows 11 update to remove FAT32 partition size limit after nearly 3 decades

By Redoy K

Microsoft is lifting the 32GB size limit for FAT32 partitions in Windows 11, a restriction in place for nearly 30 years. Users can now format FAT32 volumes up to 2TB using the command line. The change is currently available in the latest Windows 11 Canary test build. This update addresses a limitation set during Windows 95 development. While Windows could read larger FAT32 partitions, creating them required third-party tools until now.
