China sentences ex-football official to 11 years for corruption

Li Yuyi, former vice president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for corruption. He was found guilty of accepting bribes worth over $1.7 million between 2004 and 2021. This case is part of a wider crackdown on corruption in Chinese sports, particularly football. Several other high-ranking officials have also been investigated or sentenced, including former CFA head Chen Xuyuan and ex-national team coach Li Tie. The crackdown aims to clean up Chinese football amid ambitious goals for the sport. AFP
