SC dismisses plea seeking stay on Somoy TV broadcast suspension order

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh declared “ineffective” a petition seeking to stay a High Court order that had suspended Somoy TV’s broadcast for seven days. The Appellate Division dismissed the case as the channel had already resumed broadcasting after the suspension period ended. The original High Court order came on August 19 in response to a writ petition by Shampa Rahman, managing director of Somoy Media Ltd.
