June-August 2024 were hottest ever recorded: EU monitor

The summer of 2024 was the hottest ever recorded globally, according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. June and August temperatures exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This increases the likelihood of 2024 being the hottest year on record. The average global surface temperature in August was 16.82°C. Scientists attribute the extreme heat to human-driven climate change, exacerbated by El Niño.
