Hilsa ban: 49 fishermen jailed in Barishal

In Barishal, Bangladesh, 49 fishermen have been jailed for violating the ongoing 22-day ban on hilsa fishing. Authorities conducted 455 raids between October 13-16, resulting in 72 cases and Tk 3.58 lakh in fines. Officials inspected various fishing sites, seizing 2,570 kg of hilsa and 11.40 lakh meters of illegal netting. The ban covers a 7,000-square-kilometer coastal breeding zone. To support affected fishermen, the government will distribute 7,996 metric tons of rice to 319,830 individuals across six districts during the ban period.READ FULL
