BNP announces rally in Dhaka demanding Khaleda Zia’s release

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a rally in Dhaka on June 29 demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia. Additional rallies are planned in metros and districts in early July. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir cited Khaleda’s deteriorating health as the reason for these demonstrations. Khaleda Zia, 79, is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital, where she recently had a pacemaker fitted. Her family’s request for treatment abroad has been denied by the government.
