Canada stun Ireland by 12 runs

Canada secured their first ever win at a Twenty20 World Cup, defeating Ireland by 12 runs in a Group A match in New York. Defending a modest 137/7, Canada’s bowlers restricted Ireland to 125/7. Despite a late fightback from George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34), Jeremy Gordon’s excellent final over sealed Canada’s victory. Earlier, Nicholas Kirton’s 49 and Shreyas Movva’s 37 lifted Canada after a top-order collapse. Photo: AFP
