At least nine people, including eight Rohingyas, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy torrential rain in Ukhiya refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, this morning. The deceased could not be immediately identified. Authorities have confirmed recovering nine bodies so far from the camps, with one victim being from the local community. Evacuation of Rohingyas living in risky hilly areas is ongoing amid the heavy rainfall that has been lashing Cox’s Bazar since yesterday. Two brothers, Rabiul Khan (50) and Humayun Khan (45), died and another person was injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ashuganj upazila, Brahmanbaria. They were returning home from Dhaka on a motorcycle to celebrate Eid when the vehicle lost control and crashed near Sohagpur bus stand area. The deceased were shoe businessmen from Brahmanbaria.
A couple tragically lost their lives when a bus hit their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Kurigram highway in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila last night. The victims, Babu Mia (40) and Roksana Begum (35), were returning home when the Kurigram-bound bus from Shatata Enterprise struck them, killing them on the spot. Locals blocked the highway protesting the incident before police intervention.
Four people, including a woman, were killed in two separate lightning strikes in Langadu upazila of Rangamati, Bangladesh. Three people died after being struck by lightning on a boat in Kaptai Lake, while the woman faced the tragic end when lightning struck her in Atarak Chhara area. The deceased were an unidentified female passenger and the easy-bike driver. The accident occurred when the vehicles collided head-on, and the truck driver and helper fled the scene.
A tragic incident occurred in Patuakhali’s Sadar upazila, where Adhara Chowdhury Mohona, an 18-year-old HSC examinee, lost her life after her scarf got entangled in the wheel of a battery-run auto-rickshaw. The body of a missing 11-year-old boy was found floating in Chaktai Khal in Chattogram’s Rajakhali area this morning. Fire Service divers recovered the body, believed to be of a street child, around 6 am after locals alerted authorities. The boy had gone missing while bathing in the canal on Tuesday. Search is ongoing for another missing boy.
A fire broke out at a garment factory’s wastage warehouse in the City Gate area of Chattogram city this morning around 10:30 am. Six firefighting engines were trying to douse the flames, according to the Divisional Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters’ Agrabad control room. The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined at the time of reporting.
A tragic incident occurred in Rajbari, Bangladesh, where an 18-year-old youth, Md Labib, lost his life while making a TikTok video on a railway track. Labib, who had recently passed his SSC exam, was with three friends when a train approached. While his friends managed to escape, Labib was crushed under the wheels of the Dhaka-bound Benapole Express train. A police officer’s wife was killed and he was injured in a hit-and-run accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar’s Hemayetpur last night. The deceased is Hafiza Akhter Tania, 30, wife of Sub-Inspector Arif Hasan from Dhanmondi Police Station. They were hit by an unknown vehicle while riding a motorcycle. Tania was declared dead at a local hospital, while the injured Hasan was later moved to a Dhaka hospital. The vehicle involved in the accident is yet to be identified.

In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old man named Anjan Kumar Shah from Jamtola village in Ishwardi municipality area of Pabna district lost his life after being hit by the Simanta Express train around 3:00 AM. The police recovered his body from the rail tracks and sent it for autopsy. The Ishwardi GRP Police Station is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
