US provides $30.5m additional assistance for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

The U.S. is providing an additional $30.5 million in assistance for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bhasan Char, and the region. PM urges IOM to raise more funds for Rohingyas

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to raise more funds from newer sources to assist the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh. During a courtesy call by IOM Director General Amy Pope, Hasina said the decreased funding for Rohingya assistance requires the IOM to find new partners for raising more funds. 418 BGB platoons deployed for first phase of upazila polls

Ahead of the first phase of upazila parishad polls tomorrow, 418 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain peace and assist the local administration until May 10. Additionally, 1,59,874 Ansar members will help law enforcers ensure security at voting centers. Man kills wife, 7-year-old daughter in Dinajpur

In a horrific incident in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila, a man beat his wife Morzina Begum (34) and daughter Afrin (7) to death, while also critically injuring his son Al Amin (14). 407 die in 399 accidents during Eid trips’ 

During the Eid vacation from April 4 to 18, a staggering 407 people lost their lives and 1,398 were injured in 399 road accidents across Bangladesh, according to the passenger welfare association. Motorcycles were involved in nearly 50% of the accidents, resulting in 165 fatalities and 240 injuries. Shib Narayan Das, a designer of the national flag, passes away

Freedom fighter Shib Narayan Das, one of the designers of the first Bangladesh flag before independence, passed away at 78 in Dhaka on Friday.
