Driest April in 43 years

By Redoy K

Bangladesh experienced a record low of only 1mm average rainfall in April, the driest since 1981, marking a staggering 81% deficit compared to the normal 134mm. This exceptional dry spell, coupled with soaring temperatures, led to the country’s longest heatwave in 76 years. However, meteorologists predict some relief in May with the possibility of rain and thundershowers from May 2-8, followed by milder heatwaves due to the neutralization of El Niño. Photo: Amran Hossain
