Europe’s auto suppliers reach the end of the road

As the automotive industry shifts away from combustion engines, German auto suppliers are cutting thousands of jobs. Workers like Emrullah Karaca, who made brakes for 20 years at Continental, are being retrained for new roles like assembling heat pumps. The transition is hitting towns reliant on auto suppliers hard, with factories closing and few alternative jobs available, especially as competition from cheaper Chinese suppliers intensifies.
