Ex-IGPs Shahidul Hoque, Abdullah Al-Mamun arrested

Two former Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) of Bangladesh, AKM Shahidul Hoque and Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, were arrested in Dhaka’s Uttara area. The arrests were confirmed by Rezaul Karim Mallick, chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective branch. Both ex-police chiefs are wanted in several cases, including murder charges. Shahidul Hoque served as IGP from 2014 to 2018, while Mamun held the position from 2022 until August 5, 2024, when then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled during a mass uprising.
