Inflation rises to 9.89% in May
Inflation in Bangladesh rose to 9.89 percent in May, driven by higher food prices, according to the latest figures from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Food inflation surged to 10.76 percent, up 54 basis points from April, while non-food inflation slipped to 9.19 percent. The average inflation rate in the 2022-23 fiscal year stood at 9.02 percent, significantly higher than the recent yearly average of 6 percent, reflecting the persistent inflationary pressures in the economy.
