Japan shows first commercial fin whale catch in 48 years

Japan’s main whaling company has caught its first fin whale commercially in 48 years. The 19.6-meter male whale, weighing 55 tonnes, was harpooned on August 1. Japan resumed commercial whaling in 2019 after leaving the International Whaling Commission. The government allows a catch of 376 whales this year, including 59 fin whales.
