US launches satellite to better prepare for space weather

The US launched GOES-U satellite to improve solar flare and coronal mass ejection forecasts. Launched by SpaceX Falcon Heavy, it’s the final in a series of four satellites monitoring various weather phenomena since 2016. GOES-U features a new coronagraph, CCOR-1, allowing continuous observation of the Sun’s corona, enhancing space weather prediction capabilities and potentially mitigating disruptions to Earth’s technologies and infrastructure.
