The electoral college votes on Monday cemented Joe Biden’s Victory over Donald Trump as the next president of the United States.

Ballots were cast in all 50 states by individual electors and the district of Columbia, they mirrored their state’s popular vote.

California electors cast their 55 votes for Biden making him gain beyond 270 electoral votes, Hawaii cast the final four electoral votes for Biden, who won a total of 306 electoral votes as Trump remained at 232 votes.

Thus members of the US electoral college confirmed Joe Biden’s presidential election victory, a final step for him to take over the office.

The results of the voting process are going to be sent to Washington DC, formally counted in a joint session of Congress on January 6th presided by Vice-President Mike Pence, BBC reports.

This will clear the path for Joe Biden to be sworn as President on January 20.

Following his victory confirmation by US electoral college, Biden said, “Its time to turn the page, as we’ve done throughout our history, to unite, to heal,” adding that US democracy had been “pushed, tested and threatened”, and “Proved to be resilient, true and strong”. He spoke in Delawar, at an announcement.

Condemning Trump’s attempts to challenge the result he said, the “ will of the people prevailed”.

Biden praised “ordinary men and women” who had refused to be bullied, referring to the president’s efforts to question and overturn the results, involving legal challenges which have been rejected by courts across the country- BBC reported.

BBC quoted Biden, “The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago,” he said. “And we know that nothing, not even a pandemic or an abuse of power can extinguish that flame.”
